A Wizard of Oz Party is a fun theme for a special kid’s birthday! Ideas for this party include decorations, games, food ideas and a spooky walk in the woods! What fun the kids will have!
There are lots of inexpensive posters to use for decorations to set the mood.
Wizard of Oz themed Food Ideas:
1. Uncle Henry’s “Over the Rainbow” – Garden Veggies arranged like a rainbow.
2.”Tin Man’s Heart” – Cut watermelon in heart shapes using a cookie cutter. Also, make small sweetened cream cheese open faced sandwiches with a “heart” strawberry on top.
3. “Good Witch” Magic Wands – Make Peanut Butter and Jelly star shaped sandwiches and put them on long pretzel sticks. (Cut bread with a star shaped cookie cutter.)
4. “Munchkin Munchies” – Scarecrow “hay” potato sticks!
5. Toto’s Puppy Chow – ( Puppy Chow recipe here)
6. Yellow Brick Road Jello – (lemon jello) You can make these into “jigglers” or just jello cups.
7. Emerald City Tea – Green Punch (lime)
Of course, the party needs some Ruby Slippers!! Make Candy Ruby Slippers by using a plastic candy mold.
Wizard of Oz Room Decorations:
Set the stage using Dorothy dolls, a large heart, courage badge, and a certificate for the scarecrow’s brain! Of course, the green curtain is for the entrance to Emerald City!
Neighborhood teens get in on the fun dressed like Dorothy and the Tin Man.
Wizard of Oz Table Setting!
For dessert, there’s Tornado Cookies! Make these cookies using a Christmas Tree cookie cutter. Just bend the cutter a bit to look like a tornado. Finish it off with a swirl of chocolate on top! Yum!
A wooded backyard makes a perfect spot for a walk through the Haunted Forest. Who knows what they’ll see? Signs warn about the “Haunted Forest”.
For the walk in the woods, a neighborhood friend poses as the Wicked Witch. Kids recognized her so they weren’t scared.
